How the five yearly service fits with the annual inspections
Your hydrants and sprinklers are inspected every year. In the fifth year the five yearly service is added, so that year carries both.

Hydrant systems and sprinkler systems
Hydrant systems
A building's hydrant system can take in the booster assembly at the street, the hydrants out in the grounds, and landing valves on the risers inside. We service it as a system, and the annual inspections and flow testing carry on in the years between.
Sprinkler systems
A sprinkler system is controlled from its valve set, usually in a plant room or valve room, where the alarm valve, the main valve and the gauges sit together. The valve at the top of this page is an alarm check valve with its cover off.

Keeping the five yearly service on time
A fire system that is rarely used gives few signs when something inside it stops working. Routine servicing is how those faults are found while there is no fire.
In NSW, the owner of a building with a fire safety schedule gives an annual fire safety statement once an accredited practitioner (fire safety) has assessed each measure listed. Where hydrants and sprinklers are on the schedule, book the five yearly service well before the statement is due.
When the service turns up a fault
We also do:
- Fire hydrant installs and alterations
- Hydrostatic pressure testing
- Pump assisted booster flow testing
- Fire pump set maintenance and installs
Common questions
Does the five yearly service replace that year's annual inspection?
No. The annual inspections carry on every year. In the fifth year, the five yearly service is booked as well.
What if we don't know when the last one was done?
Send us what the building has, such as past service reports, and we'll go through it with you before booking.
Can one booking cover the hydrants and the sprinklers?
Yes. We do five yearly hydrant system services and five yearly sprinkler system services, so mention both systems when you get in touch.
Do you come out to Tea Gardens and Lake Macquarie?
Yes, both are in our area. Lake Macquarie is about 35 minutes by road from Thornton, and Tea Gardens a bit under an hour.
Which standard is the work done to?
AS 1851-2012, Routine service of fire protection systems and equipment, published by Standards Australia. The fire safety schedule for your building sets out which measures apply.
